Flying IFR, Lesson 11

IFR Summary

So, we've learned how the IFR system is constructed, we've learned the various components that we can operate with, and we've learned how to put it all together to get from A to B. So, what's left? Practice, practice, practice. The only way to remember everything is to keep yourself immersed in the system as much as possible. Now that you understand the basics, it's time to turn you loose and and let you really learn what it's all about. Every approach you fly will be different, procedures and conditions vary by the minute. Don't think that you know an approach just because you've flown it once. Fly it until the approach chart is burned into your mind and you can pinpoint your position every second. As I said in the last lesson, the most important quality of a good IFR pilot is situational awareness. You need to have a picture of what's happening even though you can't see outside the aircraft. You'll find that after a good dose of IFR conditions, you won't even want to look out the window anymore.

Before you go though, it's time for your checkride. There's no getting out of this easy. So, here's your assignment. You're to make an IFR flight from Tampa International(TPA) to Fort Pierce-St. Lucie County International(FPR). Upon arriving at FPR, you will execute the VOR Rwy 14 Approach, circling to land on runway 9. This is an early morning flight, weather is ceiling 600ft, moderate rain. You can choose IMC the entire way enroute or you can fly VFR above the overcast. I need you to file a flight plan with me and give me a screenshot if able of you at minimums on the approach. Have fun and keep reading AVSIM!
